This manufacturer of Smart Building and Internet of Things (IoT) announced that they have combined occupancy sensors and Bluetooth ID badges to detect presence and motion to ultimately provide Contract Tracing and utilization analytics.Even before COVID, our clients in Senior Living have expressed interest in Real-Time Location Systems (RTLS) to provide behavioral analysis, incident response and data, and infectious disease control.  We’ve always assumed these would be combined with a traditional nurse call system but have not found one developed enough to provide the reliability, accuracy, usability, and convenience needed to satisfy the e-call needs.  With the long-term uncertainty of coronavirus and the lessons learned, we’re turning our focus to identifying a separate system for location tracking and Contact Tracing.

What we like about Enlighted’s approach:

• Flexible sensor deployment
• Combined PIR (motion sensor) and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for improved accuracy
• Occupancy limit detection and alerting; and occupancy heatmaps
• Frequent path detection and room/corridor usage information
• Other information obtained by sensors: ambient temperature and lighting levels

What we’d like to see more of:

• Precise location data within a room
• For an all-around Smart Building solution: additional sensors such as door open/close, humidity, air quality, integration with PoE lighting, loud sounds (smoke alarm, gunshot)
• Electronic Access Control integrated ID Badge
