Full IP System

A full IP telephone system is comprised of an enterprise communications server and IP phones.  It offers richly featured, low-cost telephony services by leveraging the data networking infrastructure that normally exists for all small, medium and large businesses that rely on computers and peripherals. IP-based communication systems reach users across the entire business enterprise, including local and remote employees.  IP Phones look just like conventional phones with a handset, cradle and buttons, but instead of having the standard RJ-11 phone connectors, IP phones have a RJ-45 Ethernet connector. IP phones connect directly to the existing computer data network and have all the hardware and software necessary onboard to handle a phone call. Wi-Fi phones allow subscribing callers to make VoIP calls from any Wi-Fi hot spot within the office. Softrim offers the Cisco SMB IP phone system.

CISCO Unified Communications SMB-500 Series: Cisco is the market leader in IP telephony with over 65% of the US market.  This system is ideal for small and medium businesses up to 96 users with essentially 96 ports available for end user voicemail.

Traditional Key System

A traditional phone system is called a digital key system.  Key systems are comprised of individual phones, each having individual line selection buttons for each connected phone line.  There may be some limited PBX (private branch exchange) features such as dialable intercoms.  Controls (and features) are provided in the individual phones and do not require any single shared control unit.  Key systems allow access to all connected PSTN lines but do not share multi-channel trunk lines (ISDN, T1's and PRI's). Key systems are sized by the number of lines such as 3 lines by 8 telephones or 8 lines by 16 telephones.  Softrim no longer offers the NEC DSX-40 series traditional key system.

Hybrid Key Systems

Hybrid systems are a combination of Key and PBX technologies that support anonymous trunk lines such as T1's and PRI's.  These systems are sized by the number of ports.  A phone system with the capacity for 32 ports can have any combination of lines and telephones that add up to 32; the increments of this ratio being determined by how many lines or handsets are configured in the Switch.  We offer the NEC DSX-80 series, Nortel ICS System, and the Iwatsu Enterprise Communication Server hybrid key systems.

NEC DSX-80 Series: Ideal for medium businesses up to 32 users. The 80 series can accept up to 2 PRI trunks and a 4 or 8 port voice mail system.

Nortel ICS System: The CICS is designed for small to medium businesses requiring 4 to 8 lines and 8 to 24 telephone extensions.

Iwatsu Enterprise 4.0 Communications Server (with VoIP add-on capability): Ideal for medium and large businesses up to 1024 users in multiple offices and locations. The ECS system is also used for Call Center applications. It can handle up to 11 PRI trunks and a voice mail system that supports up to 64 ports. The system supports up to 16 separate offices in a VoIP Campus environment.
